On November 29, 5:00 PM, as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Georgian National University SEU will host a public lecture on gender-based violence, defined as the physical, mental, psychological or social impact, exerted on women.
Violence against women is a restriction of fundamental human rights and freedoms. In modern society, there is a growing trend of violence against women and femicide, which may be considered as the definition of severe psycho-social problems in women.
During the meeting, the following issues will be discussed:
Gender-based violence as a psychological trauma;
Psychological and behavioral characteristics of the abuser and the victim;
Cycle of violence;
The victim’s sentiments that may prevent their cooperation with law enforcement;
The role of public services in assisting/supporting the victims of violence.
The public lecture will be led by: Mariam Gvilava, Psychologist, Doctor of Social Sciences and Assistant- Professor at SEU; Ina Shanava, Doctor of Social Sciences, Associate Professor at SEU.
