                                            Quality Assurance Service

 The Quality Assurance Service of the SEU implements planning, execution, coordination and monitoring of the quality assurance procedures of the SEU for systematic assessment and development of quality of education services;

In order to achieve its objectives Quality Assurance Service carries out the following duties:

  • Quality Assurance Service promotes continuous improvement of teaching and learning quality in the University;
  • Participates in the development of short and long-term plans for strategic development;
  • Determines the criteria for assessing the learning process;
  • Operates and publicly accesses the quality assurance system, which envisages cycle - "plan - make - check - develop";
  • Ensures high level of teaching quality by the introduction of modern methods of learning, teaching and evaluation.

 

Through the components of the quality assurance system and in cooperation with other structural units the Service systematically conducts:

  •  Assessment of educational programs;
  • Assessment of scientific research work;
  •  Evaluation of personnel professional development.

Quality Assurance Service develops recommendations for elimination and improvement of deficiencies identified in academic and scientific research activities in cooperation with other structural units based on analysis of assessment results.

 Quality Assurance Service Objectives:

  • Determining quality assurance policy within the university;
  •  Elaboration of criteria and procedures for quality assurance mechanisms, evaluation (material-technical resources, academic and invited personnel, educational programs and syllabuses);
  • Organizing development of self-assessment questionnaire for authorization and accreditation;
  • Processing of the results of the surveys of the persons involved in the teaching-learning process and based on the analysis of the results elaborating recommendations for further improvement of the learning process and material-technical basis;
  • Permanent monitoring and evaluation of lectures, seminars, group work, presentations and other activities carried out by academic and invited staff according to the priory developed schedule and defining compliance of the academic material-technical base with authorization / accreditation standards;
  • Supporting the introduction of modern methods of learning, teaching and evaluation;
  • Organizing training seminars, consultation and informational meetings for academic and administrative personnel regarding Bologna Process, as well as issues related to authorization and accreditation;
  •  Facilitating student mobility within the Bologna process, both inside and outside the country. Recognition of students credits obtained both in Georgia and abroad, as defined by the legislation of Georgia;
  • Creation of a single educational space within Georgia, signing memorandums with various Higher Education Institutions of Georgia, on the basis of recognition of credits of each other;
  • Promoting publication of scientific papers, study-methodical literature, lecture courses, basic and supplementary textbooks;
  •  Supporting development of forms of educational programs, syllabuses and other educational documents; replying the incoming correspondence within its competence;
  • Establishing contacts and cooperating with the relevant services of Higher Education Institutions of other countries in order to ensure development of the quality control mechanisms;
  •  Submission of education programs to the Academic Council for revision and approval.

 Quality Assurance Service (later - Service) has a Head, who is appointed and dismissed by the Rector.

The Head of the Service is accountable to the Rector and the Deputy Rector and performs the duties imposed on him by law and on the given Statute.

 Head of Service:

  • Leads and manages the Service;
  •  Distributes functions and obligations among the Service personnel, gives them instructions;
  • Submits the report on the implemented work to the Rector;
  •  Advocates for allocation of funds and material resources required for the work and tasks of the Service;
  • Organizes the implementation of the functions assigned to the Service by the given Statute, for this purpose submits to the Rector the proposals for tackling and deciding separate issues;
  • Carries out other functions and tasks defined by the given Statute, SEU Legal Acts and the Georgian legislation.

 Assistant to the Head of Quality Assurance Service:

  • Supports the Head of the service in planning and coordinating the duties imposed on him;
  • Participates in the distribution of the materials within the Service;
  • Organizes the activities planned under the auspices of the Service;
  • Provides consultation on the issues of the activities of the University structural units;
  • Carries out other obligation assigned by the Head of the Service and Head of Administration.

Duties of Quality Assurance Service Coordinator includes:

  • The main duty of the Quality Service Coordinator is to control the quality of teaching foreign languages;
  • To care for professional development of teachers;
  • To attend and monitor their lectures;
  • To give feedback and analysis;
  • To identify their strengths and to work on weak sides;
  • To divide teachers according to foreign language levels and participate in their lessons planning;
  • To attend the planning process;
  •  To plan and conduct trainings for teachers' professional development;
  •  To plan and analyze the learning process;
  •  To select foreign language textbooks and writing courses (syllabus);
  •  To find teaching resources and adjust to the specificity of the subject;
  •  To elaborate assessment criteria;
  •  To plan new courses and adapt to their learning process;
  •  To organize permanent work meetings with lecturers, provide individual consultations.
